Trust in all Seasons

"But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
Whose confidence is in him.
They will be planted like a tree by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
It's leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."
Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV)

This is such a beautiful picture of peace and stability.

Looking at myself, I can't confidently say that this is me all of the time. When life seems good then sure, I'm a 'planted tree'. Other times when things get rough, I guess you could say I can get a little bit shaky - you might find yourself relating to this.

Heat comes and droughts will come to us in and out of season. But those whose trust and whose confidence is in the Lord, need not fear. Their leaves remain green and they will never fail to bear fruit. How freeing is it to know that this a promise that is for us, but we must trust in the Lord through everything and in every season.

I have been pacing myself through a Beth Moore study on David and one of the most impacting statements that she writes is this:
"what comes out of a battle isn't nearly as important as who comes out of a battle."

So what is God trying to show you when you are in a season of heat or how is he trying to shape you when you are in a spiritual drought?

"Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out of it proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it's your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory." 1 Peter 1:6-7 (MSG)

I love this verse. Our faith is a fruit that bears witness to our God. The way we respond and live through our toughest seasons bears testimony to our faith in Jesus. So what fruit will you or are you bearing when you are walking through the fire? Does it burn as you walk through? Or does it remain in tact, untouched, alive, life-giving and beautiful? What comes out of us is not on display for just ourselves. We bear fruit for the nourishment of others too. We can bear good fruit and bad fruit even whilst journeying through the heat and droughts of our lives. So how are you feeding those around you?

Here are some things to consider when you're in a tough season:
1. What is being tested in you?
2. What is coming out through you? worry, hopelessness, fear, anger or resentment? replace all of these with planted, trust, fearlessness because that is our promise for those who trust in him.

Whatever is coming out of you and through you whilst you are in the heat, is the fruit that you are bearing that is out on display for God and for others around you. When we trust in our God and choose to throw away all of our reasoning and our need to understand what is happening and simply look up and say - "I trust you" - that is when the difficulty and the heartache of our circumstances has it's full weight lifted from your shoulders. Then the hardships and challenges of your life is not what would bring you to your knees but you would be brought to your knees in gratitude because of the awe, the splendour, the power, the sovereignty and the mighty hand of our God. Choose to trust and place your confidence in Him. Because then you will be thankful that your leaves are still green, that you are still bearing fruit for you and for those around you.
